Short Bio

Current position: Senior Postdoctoral Researcher, Systems and Synthetic Biology Lab, Telethon Institute of Genetics and Medicine (TIGEM), Pozzuoli, NA, Italy.
Education: Ph.D. degree in Computer Science; M.Sc. degree in Computer Science with specialization in Mathematical Modeling.
Research and Academic activity: F.N. focused his M.Sc. and Ph.D. work on Machine Learning (ML) problems, particularly clustering of complex data. Early experience with biological applications came with bioinformatic (BI) analysis of cancer transcriptomic and genomic data. Related interest in pharmacological therapy induced F.N. to explore the area of Chemoinformatics (CI). F.N. applied previous experience in ML, BI and CI to the field of Systems Biology. In this regard, he studied the automatic prediction of drug therapeutic indications from integrated biological and chemical data. His current projects focus on the double role of small molecules as drugs for their therapeutic effects and lab tools to probe cellular mechanisms. F.N. has been active in the area of reproducible research, publishing dedicated software tools. He has academic teaching experience in the areas of Machine Learning and Computational Biology.
